About CHIC's Public Health Practicum
CHIC’s Public Health Practicum is designed to help students achieve the competencies they need for planning and implementing effective programs. These programs are focused on preventing disease and promoting population health and health outcomes. The practicum is supervised by a highly qualified professional with many years of health care and public health experience
Practicum Areas of Experience
- Assessing community needs
- Assessing the knowledge, attitude, practices, and health seeking behavior of target audiences
- Developing culturally responsive and tailored health education and behavioral change education plans
- Planning and providing health education sessions in various formats
- Organizing and conducting community outreach
- Developing health education flyers and plain language communication tools
- Health literacy and cultural competence
- Patient navigation and advocacy
- Assist with organizing community health fair(s)
Practicum Format
· In person and remote practicum activity
· Setting can be tailored based on the type of activity
Practicum Requirments
While CHIC is selective in accepting candidates for our practicum program, we believe in collaborating and mentoring individuals who have a desire to serve, improve health outcomes, and are dedicated to their craft. As such, the below is a firm requirement. Public Health students will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
