We provided a series of health education sessions on priority health concerns and gaps among the African Immigrant community virtually. The health education session focused on the prevention and control of the following:
In August of 2023, we organized a community focus group discussion to assess the knowledge, attitude, practices, and health seeking behaviors related to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) among the African immigrant community residing in the greater Saint Louis area in Missouri.
The finding from the focus group discussion indicated poor community awareness related to ASD. We are planning to provide a series of health education sessions focused on ASD.
CHIC is delighted to extend an invitation to you for a health education session to enhance community awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This enlightening session will be conducted via Zoom over three consecutive days, from 09/22/2023 to 09/24/2023, with sessions running from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM US CDT.
The Community Health Improvement Collaborative, in partnership with the Ethiopian Community Association of Greater Saint Louis, achieved a significant milestone by successfully organizing a culturally informed health education session that aimed to heighten awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within the immigrant community of Metropolitan Saint Louis. An integral part of this initiative was the distribution of an easily comprehensible booklet, thoughtfully prepared by the Community Health Improvement Collaborative in Amharic language, which was tailored to the specific needs of the community. This invaluable resource was shared with the 35 participants during the program, conducted seamlessly via Zoom. The central focus of the session was to promote positive changes in knowledge, attitudes, practices, and healthcare-seeking behaviors within the immigrant community regarding ASD. The overarching objective remains the enhancement of early identification and intervention for ASD, reflecting our commitment to improving the overall well-being of affected individuals and their families within the community. This collaborative effort underscores the significance of culturally tailored health education in addressing crucial healthcare issues within immigrant populations.
